Recently, my interest peaked regarding the building of a new home. So of course, I started educating myself on what type of loans are offered for new construction as well as looking through several house plans. My family has grown quite a bit and I’m beginning to feel like we’ve outgrown our current home. However, before I can determine that I must investigate the costs of what my family needs are and what I can afford. Going through this process provoked my mind into thinking about Jeremiah 29:11, and the plans that God has for us.
When I thought of this passage it led me to Luke 14:28, where Jesus discussed, before a house or tower is built you must add up the cost and determine if you have sufficient funds to complete it. Figuring we are redeemed by Christ as mentioned in 1 Peter 1:18-19, His blood and sacrifice were adequate for our payment. Deciding on the design of the house, the first thing I considered was our family’s needs. Then we either connect with someone to put those ideas and needs together in the form of a plan or look through available plans to choose a design that fit our needs. Let’s stop here… the design I choose will be conducive to our family needs so when it is created it embodies the functionality imagined. This is what God did when HE created us, He designed us based on the functionality that He needed to perform out of our lives.
“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future”. When we build our homes, the intent is for this home to be strong, provide shelter and safety. This home is expected to be structurally sound; to not fall or crumble. To achieve this, we hire an architect to review the plans to ensure that it withstands outside elements and the weight of everything in the home. We understand that the foundation must be strong so that this structure will last and withstand the test of time. There is intent of a future when the house is being built. The house is expected to perform and not be a hazard. This sounds a lot like how God designed us and there was a purpose in how He came about our design.
Our lives were destined. When we were born, purpose was born also. Our design was predetermined and destiny shaped that design. Our design prepares us for our purpose or intention for our existence. Do you know your design? Do you understand how you were structured and how you were wired? Do you know how your design has equipped you to fulfill your purpose? If your answer is “No”, what does it cost you?
How do you live authentically if you do not know who you are? How do you know who you are without knowing your design? How do you live intentionally without purpose? Without knowing your purpose what are you moving towards? How do you identify the target? Now I’ll ask you again, if you don’t know your design and your purpose, what does it cost you?
