Have you ever attended a funeral and it seemed as if the the person giving the eulogy struggled with saying anything of substance about the deceased? It’s pretty sad when a life has made such little impact because of its lack of substance. In trying to be of service, the eulogist attempts to highlight any good thing they can think of no matter how shallow those things may be. They may choose to focus on funny conversations or social gatherings but again nothing of actual substance that conveys the story of their character or the fulfillment of their life’s purpose. Worse case, their eulogy is so generic due to having nothing good to say.
If you’ve witnessed a funeral like this, it should make you think about your life and what will be said about you. Has your life been impactful and not just a life of vanity? A life of vanity is a life that was not purpose-driven, it was empty or valueless. A life of purpose is a life driven by intention. Think about the times that you created a list of things to do. How did you feel when you were able to check off everything that you purposed to complete? Most will say that there was a feeling of accomplishment, fulfillment, and satisfaction because their day was focused and intentional.
There are writers when writing a book, will start with the ending. The book then intentionally works towards that ending. Our purpose is our life’s intended outcome. Our purpose establishes the legacy we leave behind. We should want our legacy to tell a story of a life lived that had an outcome bigger than us. We are to use our gifts and abilities to serve someone other than ourselves. How do you want to be remembered? What do you want people to say about you? What was the outcome of your existence? The outcome of your life relies on the discovery of your purpose. There is more to you and it’s trapped beneath the surface. You are meant to be so much more than who you’ve settled to be or were told to be. There is so much greatness to be seen when your life is driven by intention and purpose.
You have a responsibility to discover who you are, acknowledge your gifts, and utilize them to fulfill your life’s purpose. Do not be that person whose life made no impact. Do not be that person whose life is empty and valueless. Let the outcome of your purpose narrate the story of your legacy.
