Imperfect

Updated: Dec 14, 2021

I am a woman who has issues with showing my imperfections. I am insecure of my cellulite. Yep, I have thighs and a butt full of dents, so I wear spanks to smooth it out. I make a conscious effort to make what is imperfect appear perfect, or as perfect as I can get it. Also, before I leave the house I have to put on eyeliner to make my eyes more dramatic, mascara to thicken my lashes, and concealer to hide my blemishes and even out my skin. When I don’t do these things, I feel naked, exposed, and less beautiful. I disapprove of my natural state because it’s flawed.

I am even insecure of my stretch marks that came with childbirth. I gained 50lbs with both of my children, so the stretch marks are the scars that were left behind. Those scars represent 10 months of growth and stretching intended to bring forth life. Each 10-month long pregnancy had an intentional purpose attached to it. I should wear those scars with a badge of honor, but I don’t. I want to hide them because I think they’re unattractive even though the scars represent life and the beauty of creation.

It’s amazing how we practice this in so many aspects of our lives. We want to hide and conceal our scars. If my imperfections or scars represent the journey attached to my becoming, why do I wish to hide them? We want to share with others our achievements but withhold our failures. We want everybody to see our strength but want to mask our weaknesses. We want to recognize our triumphs but not acknowledge our defeat. We have failed to see the beauty of the journey.

Our destiny is so important in our development. When we take the time to take the journey of discovering who we are, we accept the things that scarred us and the things we are ashamed of not just what we’re proud of. That journey full of imperfections and scars shaped you and plays a huge role in your design and purpose. Embrace all of it, the bitter and the sweet. You will be amazed by how the truth of why those experiences happened was setting you up for greatness. Destiny, design and purpose requires ALL of you!
