I was so overjoyed when I became pregnant with my children. I knew the first time I wanted to have a little girl because I needed someone to relate to. I was in the house with two males at that time and I was surrounded by testosterone. I desired a “mini-me”. I also desired to give my little girl everything the “little girl” in me always wanted. I wanted a mirrored reflection of myself to form and shape.
The beauty of this reflection gave me revelation into why God created us. He made man in His likeness, His image! Going off the dictionary definition, an “image” is a person or thing that closely resembles another. When I think about that, I think His idea is to see Himself in us. When He created us, He took into consideration what about himself He wanted us to look like, sound like, act like and perform. He was very specific and detailed in every one of our designs.
Can you imagine what God feels when we decide to reject what He created us to be? We look in the mirror and tell ourselves the lies that we aren’t good enough. Does that mean we think He’s not good enough if we reject His reflection? He designed us to be one way and we choose to go against that design. Our design dictates everything from values to character. So many people hate themselves and want to be who they are not. Why do we not accept who we were designed to be? Why can’t we appreciate the unique creativity that went into our existence? That’s because we don’t understand the importance of our creation.
Everything from the time we were conceived was intentional. God intentionally purposed our family, our gender, our character, and our design. He also knew how our individual choices and journeys would navigate us to our seat of purpose. We are incapable of fulfilling our purpose if we can’t embrace everything about ourselves, even the things we don’t like. Our flaws and failures are just as important in the journey as our achievements and successes. It all plays a part in our development.
I want to encourage you to be truthful and authentic in your identification. God loves you and did not make a mistake when He created you. We don’t always see how our lives and the circumstances that shaped us played a role in our development. Many times, we are blinded by what happened and not why it happened. Be encouraged and know that your design was intentional. God created and shaped you to be great with purpose in mind. He transferred to you pieces of himself with the intent of seeing His reflection in you. This impartation was part of your unique design. Take the time to discover your design so that you can use what He gave you to fulfill His purpose.
