Broken Mirror

One morning I was sitting back and reflecting over my life. I thought about my mistakes and the changes I’ve implemented in my life. I was thinking about the people who have wronged me and the people that have hurt me. I thought about the perceptions that people have of me. I thought about my flaws and my weaknesses. Then I thought about my strengths and how I want people to see the person I was created to be now verses the person I was. I don’t always get it right. When God created me, He created a mirrored image of Himself and I realized that sometimes this mirror is broken.

The thought of being a broken mirror got me thinking of how mirrors are repaired. I am a DIYer so I was curious of the steps that are taken in mirror repair. When repairing a broken mirror you start by cleaning it to remove the dirt, dust and mirror particles. Next you place a stabilizer film over the crack. Then you use epoxy resin to recover the broken part completely. The stabilizer will keep the epoxy in place until it has taken hold. After the resin sets you can then remove the stabilizer and scrape away the excess.

I looked at these steps and started evaluating what those steps represent in my life. My bad behaviors, character flaws, people and things that I allow to infect and poison my mind. These things cause a crack in my mirror. So what do I need to do? I have to remove and “clean” myself out.

After I have removed what causes me to be cracked or broken I need stabilizer. I looked at stabilizers as the people in my life that hold me accountable and tell me the truth. They are sometimes my prayer partners or at times, spiritual crutches. Stabilizers I believe are even those that God sends to you during certain seasons of your life that are meant to help you through that season. Stabilizers are important for the next step.

The epoxy resin is now to be applied. I see the epoxy resin as God, my faith and my Bible. Once I have applied what the Bible is telling me to do and allow God and my faith to take hold, I can peel off the stabilizer and scrape away the excess.

When my mirror is broken my damage is visible. If it starts with a crack the crack will spread. As the damage increases the reflection becomes distorted. A distorted reflection is no longer a true representation of who you are. Repairing your broken mirror is important so your design and purpose can be seen clearly.
